Check in was not available until 5pm. We were informed they had a busy cleaning crew and needed the extra time to get place ready. We entered the unit at 5:05 pm and unit was clearly not touched by cleaning crew. Previous guests left all beds messy with used sheets. Towels were on floor in bathroom and in bedrooms. Kitchen and living area had old food, clutter, empty bottles and dead flowers. A bad stuffy smell was prevalent. When we called the number provided we were told to put everything in chat and that we would hear back as soon as they hear from cleaning crew. We started looking for other options and got the Airbnb team to help. We’re glad we did because we didn’t hear back from hosts until 50 minutes later with no explanation or commitment to clean or to make it up for us and a measly offer to move us to another one bedroom unit even though they knew we were 3 guests and needed 3 beds. Very disappointing and frustrating experience- worst ever!
The apartment is in a convenient location in the Boston Commons/Chinatown area, close to the Green, Orange, and Red lines. Unfortunately, the AC was not on yet (apparently a building-wide decision), but the temperature in the apartment was over 80F (this was in late April). The only option was to open the windows, letting in mosquitos and construction noise which started at 6:30am every day. We asked for fans to help with this issue; they provided two old fans, only one of which worked. It seems that this is only an issue before the AC comes on in early May. The apartment itself is spacious and very clean. As the listing notes, it does not have much natural light. The laundry system in the basement requires preloading money onto an app that only allows for certain intervals of cash preload, so if you want to add $6.50 (the exact cost for a medial load of wash/dry), you get charged an extra $0.50. The communication around check in and check out was good.
The apartment rented was exactly as advertised. We ran into one 'issue' when attempting to access the main building for the first time, but it turns out we were just using the wrong key pad initially. Host was very quick to respond to let us know what we were missing. The area was great and easy to navigate, and the location was perfect for our group's trip. We are very happy with our rental and would recommend to anyone looking to spend time in Boston.
